Ranking Every HBO Drama Series From Worst To Best
32. K Street
Few networks can boast such consistently bold, daring TV as HBO, and while K Street may not sound as obviously adventurous as much of their output, its format and subject matter were a reasonable risk. Named after the Washington DC thoroughfare that’s a hotbed for political movers and shakers, this Steven Sodebergh-created drama was well observed and realistic sometimes to its detriment.
For those in and around DC, the show was great, accurately presenting their working lives. For others, it could be impenetrable, too insider to latch onto. The show was mostly improvised, which will always come with its own issues of quality control, and what’s more, it was kept bang up to date, referencing recent events on a tight production schedule. Its timeliness was then a boon, but makes it even more difficult to get into nowadays.
K Street is a valiant effort with a great lead turn from Mad Men’s John Slattery, but it can feel more like an experiment than a full fledged TV drama. A great idea, but one perhaps doomed to failure from the off.
