Finn Jones' Danny Rand was facing somewhat of an unenviable task when Iron First premiered on Netflix in March 2017.

By that point in time, audiences had already been given two stunning seasons of Daredevil and one season apiece of the similarly impressive Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Not only had Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter all been pitch-perfect in their respective roles headlining those shows, but the series themselves had been mapped out so brilliantly.

For Iron First, though, things just never fully clicked. So much so, it actually was somewhat of a shock when the series was renewed for a second season.

The debut season was largely based around Danny Rand finding himself after a 15-year absence, while stepping up to put a stop to the drug trade now ravaging the streets. After that, season two was more about positioning Iron Fist as a stand-in for the missing-in-action Daredevil - which did nothing but reiterate how second-rate the character felt when compared to the Man Without Fear.

Regardless of which season is in the spotlight, many viewers found the adventures of Jones' Rand to be bland. Likewise, it did the Hero for Hire no favours that he wasn't given an outfit more in tune with his classic comic book appearance.
