Ranking All 25 The Simpsons Season Finales

2. Behind The Laughter

835476

Season: 11

If there's a contentious entry on this list, Behind The Laughter from season eleven will probably be it. A complete break from Simpsons "continuity" (which has only ever been a loose continuity at best), the season finale is a parody of VH1's Behind The Music series, which looks in-depth behind the goings on of many top recording artists.

Behind The Laughter, meanwhile, looks behind the scenes at The Simpsons, treating the family as a real family who decided to produce their own show. It's arguably one of the better direct parodies the show has ever done: even the fast cut scenes between commercial breaks are spot on to the style of Behind The Music (Sex. Drugs. MILHOUSE!), and it's one of the rare moments where the show breaks the fourth wall.

However, the episode is considered by many to be non-canon, and although it won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program Under One Hour back in 2000, it continues to divide fans.

If you ignore continuity however (like the producers, who actually recorded multiple audio clips for where the Simpson family lived, which were aired during re-runs and appear as a special DVD feature), you wind up with an episode that is one of the series' best.
