Ratched Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

Downs...

3. It's Unnecessarily Gratuitous

The trailer for Ratched bore similarities to previous Murphy properties, making all of us aware that a gratuitous approach wasn't just likely; it was a certainty. Predictable, yes, but disappointing considering it had such unique inspiration to work with.

Refreshingly enough, the finished product isn't anywhere near as in-your-face about it as you might think, leaving more to the imagination than some of Murphy's previous works, but that doesn't mean that its exempt from the habit as does verge into unnecessarily graphic violence and overtly sexual subplots - and when it does that, it leaves Ratched feeling a little all too similar to multiple seasons of American Horror Story.
