Red Dwarf: 5 Best Episodes

4. Out Of Time €“ Series Six Episode Six

This episode does a great job of showing that Red Dwarf doesn€™t have to be big and ambitious with amazing visual effects to be good. The crew recover a time machine (that€™s completely useless since it only moves in time and they are three million years from Earth) and are promptly visited by themselves from fifteen years in the future. The bulk of the episode€™s jokes and story comes from the crew discovering how the Time Drive will change them into elitist snobs who only care about themselves. It€™s a very small episode on a technical scale but it€™s got some excellent ideas and it€™s very funny. It also shows a more heroic side to Rimmer as he decides to fight the crew€™s future selves to the death, declaring €œBetter dead than smeg€. Best Scene: The crew navigating the unreality minefield that guards the Time Drive. Useless Trivia: The episode€™s original ending featured the revival of the main characters due to their future selves killing them being physically impossible and them celebrating by drinking the wine Kryten made from recycled urine.
