Ripper Street Season 2: 7 Actors Who Should Guest Star
2. Rory Kinnear
For me, Rory Kinnear is one of the best British actors of our generation, and it seems that in the last few years he has begun to reach his stride, capsulation television and film audiences alike.
Kinnear is a stage veteran of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. He is acclaimed in his portrayal of Bill Tanner in the James Bond films Quantum of Solace and Skyfall and has also won the Laurence Olivier Award (The Man of Mode) and a British Independent Film Award (for Broken).
Kinnear is a tour-de-force in his character portrayal, most recently he played journalist David Whitehead in Southcliffe, a man returning to the town he left in his youth, to report on the events of the shooting. David has a bitter angst inside him, he hates the town and resents his childhood being there. Kinnear provides the audience a view into the town, he displays an amalgamation of emotions throughout the series, from his brash confidence before being sent to Southcliffe, to his resignation, his anger; his psyche once confronted with his past.
Kinnear is known for his portrayals of political figures in such pieces as Skyfall and Black Mirror and could easily emulate this for a small role in Ripper Street.
