Riverdale Season 4 Premiere: 7 Ups & 0 Downs From 'Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam'
6. A Way Of Involving Everyone
Having the tribute episode at the beginning of the season was always going to be a tricky one because it would have to account for the unrest caused by the previous season's finale. Though a tall task to overcome any year, this one was particularly tricky because of how much last season's finale turned everything upside down.
Alice had gone missing with the rest of the Farmies, Josie was preparing to leave Riverdale and Hiram and Hermione Lodge had sent each other to separate prisons, so how would Madchen Amick, Ashley Murray, Mark Consuelos and Marisol Nichols get the chance to be a part of this tribute special?
Well, the writers wisely unleashed Josie's talents one more time as the character performed a stunning rendition of "Amazing Grace" during the funeral service, while Jughead's beautifully-written obituary was the perfect device to allow for brief close-ups of Alice (wherever she may be), Hermione in prison and Hiram in his own prison as they all read the newspaper.
Not even the current storylines could prevent the whole cast from paying their respects to Luke, and that highlights just how determined everyone was to make this work. And they pulled it off in a subtle yet authentic manner.
