The idea for the Canadian sitcom, Schitt's Creek came from a father and son duo who played similar roles in the series. Eugene Levy and Dan Levy came up with this one of a kind concept.

Imagine that in an instant a family of billionaires loses all their money and are forced to move to a provincial small town and settle in a local motel, occupying two adjacent rooms. This is what happened to the Rose family.

The head of the family, Johnny Rose, and his wife, soap opera actress Moira Rose, moved to Schitt's Creek with their two grown-up children, hipster David, and socialite Alexis.

This was a hard time for Roses, however, it was insanely exciting to watch the characters adapt to a new place, trying to fit into the urban rhythm of life. And it's no less cool to see how the locals perceive the Rose family - for whom they are like aliens. This is more than fertile ground for a lot of jokes and creating funny situations.
