She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode One Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

9. Down - The Humour Was Hit & Miss

Humour is a huge cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s success. While the action, the stories, and everything else is essential, it just wouldn’t be Marvel without a few laughs. This is something that She-Hulk has absolutely committed to.

Aside from being a courtroom show, episode one certainly drove home its intention to be a comedy, and while a lot of the humour worked, there was too much of it that didn’t. Jennifer telling Bruce she was better than him, reminiscing about Inside Out’s Bing Bong, and joking about spandex were all clearly meant to be funny, but they just missed the mark.

Then there was the use of a musical crescendo to build to nothing, something that was used on three separate occasions. It wasn’t funny when Bruce told Jen about her lethal gamma dose, it wasn’t funny when Jen needed food, and it wasn’t funny when she tried and failed to copy Bruce’s clap.

Though it was still funny in parts, and certainly entertaining overall, there were just too many misses in this first episode to avoid this down. Hopefully this won't be the case moving forward.
