Sherlock: 10 Biggest Plot Twists
3. Moriarty Is Richard Brook – The Reichenbach Fall
Due to the public’s increasing interest in Sherlock and Watson, Kitty Riley (an ambitious young journalist) sought out the famous detective for an interview. Unsurprisingly, Sherlock turned her down, but Kitty still managed to garner plenty of information about Sherlock owing to a source by the name of Richard Brook.
It is later revealed that Richard Brook is a fake identity created by Moriarty. With such an identity, Moriarty aimed to discredit his nemesis by claiming Sherlock’s career was one big lie, and that he was simply an actor being paid to perform the role of a consulting criminal.
Using the information he had previously obtained about Sherlock’s past when under Mycroft's interrogation, Moriarty was able to sell such a lie by wrapping it up in a true account of Sherlock’s life.
Such a twist is a little complex when watching this episode for the first time, but with repeated viewings, this plot point shines light on how terrifyingly clever Moriarty was.
