Sherlock: 10 Most Outrageous Fan Theories

2. The Johnlock Conspiracy

Despite all the weird and wonderful fan theories out there, one of the most widely believed and circulated is the so-called Johnlock Conspiracy. Followers of TJLC at it's known are sure that it is the intention of showrunners Moffat and Gatiss to make Sherlock and John a romantic item by the end of the series. But, wait, don't roll those eyes just yet. This theory isn't just fan-fiction but has been devised through in-depth scene and script analyses - with perhaps a dollop of wishful thinking.

Although the writers have always asserted that there is no homoerotic tension between the pair, some fans believe that the story of Sherlock and John employs too many narrative and filmic techniques that frame them as a couple for the pair to be just good friends. Examples include the reference to the classic romantic ending of Casablanca in His Last Vow, and how there are secret hearts hidden in many of their scenes together. A big one comes from A Scandal In Belgravia when Irene Adler mentions how both her and John are attracted to Sherlock, despite them being generally interested in the opposite sex (a comment that John does not correct).
