Sherlock: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References

5. The Woman In Green

As we€™ve seen already, Moffat and Gatiss sometimes shamelessly pilfer from their favourite Sherlock Holmes stories and films when making Sherlock. This scene from The Reichenbach Fall is one of the most wholesale lifts in the series.

When Moriarty arrives in Baker Street and puts a foot on a creaking step, Sherlock stops playing his violin for a moment before composing himself and continuing as Moriarty enters the room.

This is a complete replication €“ including certain camera angles and shots €“ of a scene from classic Basil Rathbone film The Woman In Green. Moffat apparently gave the episode€™s director, Toby Haynes, the scene to watch to make sure he recreated it as perfectly as possible.
