Sherlock: 6 Reasons It Needs To End (And 4 Reasons It Should Come Back)
3. Moriarty Really Is Dead
While it wouldn't be fair to say that he steals the show away from Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, Andrew Scott's OTT interpretation of Jim Moriarty is certainly one of the most rabidly beloved elements of the show.
His continuous games with Sherlock made the first two seasons something really special and, ever since his death in The Reichenbach Fall, the show has bent over backwards to find contrived ways to bring the character back. Moriarty became such a core part of the show that it made sense - well, in one way - when he was apparently resurrected from the dead in the season three finale His Last Vow. After years of teasing us, however, it was revealed in The Final Problem that Moriarty really was dead, after all.
With the door closed forever on Moriarty, the show has lost one of its biggest stars. Sure, Sherlock has produced a few other memorable bad guys but they will never be able to step out from under Jim's shadow. Is there point in continuing Sherlock's adventures when he has already defeated his greatest enemy?
