Sherlock: 7 Things We Can Look Forward To In Season 4
3. Sherlock & Molly
While a romantic relationship may never appear for these two characters, there's no denying that Sherlock and Molly Hooper have chemistry, and it shows in every scene that they have together. We have watched each of them grow and change over time, each helped by the other: Sherlock has learned to be a little more compassionate, and Molly has grown into a woman of quiet strength, no longer hopelessly infatuated, but still caring and willing to do anything for the people she loves. Their relationship has evolved so much since the show's first season, evidenced most strikingly in Season 3's The Empty Hearse, when Sherlock invites Molly to solve crimes with him. They work very well together, and with a surprisingly sweet moment at the end of their investigation when Sherlock tells Molly that she matters to him... well, it's enough to make one wonder what the writers may have in store for the relationship. With John busy with family life, Sherlock is bound to reach out to his few other friends, the closest of those being Molly. It will be interesting to see their friendship continue to grow. The question to ponder is, how far would the writers be willing to go in making Molly, a non-canon character, possibly an even greater part of Sherlock's life? Any major shift in their relationship, romantic or otherwise, would be another unprecedented step for the Sherlock Holmes canon. Whatever happens, I look forward to any future interaction between Sherlock and Molly, as, thanks to the incredible acting of Benedict Cumberbatch and Louise Brealey, any scene with the two of them is fantastic.
