It's a talent that clearly runs in the family, as Sherlock has been known to try on a few false personalities during his investigations. In the stories - and many other adaptations - he usually goes the whole hog and puts on a complete disguise.

Sherlock usually has a more grounded approach to acting different parts, but we have seen him dress up once - when he masqueraded as a French waiter in The Empty Hearse.
