The Simpsons: 10 Best Mr Burns Moments

7. Alien Burns - The Springfield Files

"Good morning star shine. The Earth says hello!" In a rare crossover episode, The Simpsons tied in with another hugely successful Fox show, The X-Files, for the classic episode 'The Springfield Files'. After Homer thinks he has seen an alien in the woods, no one believes him except Bart, so FBI agents Mulder and Scully arrive on the scene to investigate Homer's claim. Every Friday night, the alien appears, so after Homer spots it twice in a row, the townsfolk gather on the third Friday to see the visitor for themselves. Many believe it to be a genuine extraterrestrial, but Lisa shines a torch on the glowing figure, revealing it to be none other than Mr Burns, bizarrely proclaiming his love for everyone. Smithers explains that in order to cheat death, Burns undergoes a series of treatments from the ever reliable Dr Nick and his team, including spinal adjustments, eye drops, pain killers and a horrifying vocal cord straightening. Oh, and years of working in the nuclear power plant gave him that "healthy green glow". Although Burns is only revealed to be the alien in the last act, the sight of him singing and dancing with the citizens of Springfield is one of his more memorable, depicting the most evil man in town as a peace loving hippie, high as a kite as he sways gently with the crowd.
