The Simpsons: 10 Exceptional Episodes From The Last 10 Years
2. "Brick Like Me" - Season 25
Plot: Homer wakes up happy if not slightly confused in a world made of Legos, but has flashbacks to his life outside the brick world: he and Lisa had recently bonded over Lego blocks, but her budding friendship with older girls was threatening that bond. A statue of a Hunger Games-like girl built by Comic Book Guy toppled over onto Homer, knocking him out and into this new world, one that Homer must find his way out of. This could have been a lazy episode: the gimmick of an entire episode made out of Legos - especially with the popularity of The Lego Movie - could have been enough of a hook for viewers; instead, it became a classic episode without the blocks. Sure, the B-story of Bart forced to rebuild the school exactly as the directions state is almost the exact plot of The Lego Movie, but a cameo appearance of Emmett and Wyldstyle makes the thievery acceptable (the story was actually finalised well before The Lego Movie was released, so any similarities - according to Simpsons' show-runner Al Jean- are "completely unintentional.") With the entire episode stemming from Homer's unconscious state of mind - and his fear of being abandoned by Lisa - is best summed up with his thoughts about living in a Lego universe: "Everything fits with everything else, and nobody ever gets hurt." Funniest Moment: Bart's robot creation - built from several different sets (Batman, Spongebob, and Hobbit sets along with the Springfield Elementary set )- used to save Homer, including: a lion blaster, Lightsaber barf, and a gun that shoots Principal Skinner's head.
