7. Bleeding Gums Murphy
20th Century Fox TelevisionNot many characters are killed off in the Simpsons universe so theres usually a good reason when one of them is done away with. Sometimes it is out of necessity because the actors who portrayed them have passed away. That is how we lost truly great characters such as Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz (both voiced by Phil Hartman) and, more recently, Edna Krabappel, voiced by Marcia Wallace. In other cases, though, the characters die because nobody likes them. That is the case with Bleeding Gums Murphy. Sure, he played an important role in Lisas development in the beginning, but there was just nothing funny about the guy, not even his $1500-a-day Faberge egg habit. It's understandable that the guy needs a sad background because hes a jazz musician, but a character who is simply just depressing doesnt belong on a show like The Simpsons.
