The Simpsons: 20 Awesome Easter Eggs And References

9. Peter Griffin And Fatter Homer

Episode: Treehouse of Horror XIII (S14, E1) Prior to the series going in the direction of out-and-out crossovers, things were rather more subtle. References to other cartoons were meticulously woven into the narrative and the show didn't have to debase itself by doing any spin-offs with other shows to generate some cheap interest. One of the coolest Easter Eggs was in the thirteenth Treehouse of Horror where Homer is cloned multiple times by his incredible new hammock. As you would expect from a Treehouse of Horror short, things quickly get out of hand and the clones use the hammock to make an army of Homers. This army grows to include many notable mutations including the obese Homer seen in 'King Size Homer', The Tracey Ullman Show version of Homer and €“ most memorably €“ Peter Griffin from Family Guy. It seems that Peter is significantly fatter than the comparatively trim Homer. Could this be Matt Groening having a poke at the argument that fellow Fox cartoon character Peter Griffin is but a cheap imitation of his own show's main character?
