The Simpsons: 20 Awesome Easter Eggs And References

6. The Two 24601s

Episode: Homer's Barbershop Quartet (S5, E1) When Principal Skinner recognises an old prison helmet from is days in a POW camp in Vietnam, Simpsons viewers who know their musicals will have been able to show off their knowledge to everyone present. As well as being relevant to Skinner, '24601' is the prisoner number tattooed on Jean Valjean in Les Misérables. Though at the time it seemed to be just a cool little high-brow Easter Egg, the reference became even more relevant four years later in the episode 'The Principal and the Pauper' when we learn that Skinner (actually called Armin Tamzarian) stole someone else's identity and became a respectable member of society, much like the hero of Les Misérables. An amazing prophetic Easter Egg four years in the making. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2sanq2SM0k#t=142
