Episode Summary: Red kryptonite makes Clark lose his inhibitions. Watching Clark revel in his power is a thrill for Superman fans, because it highlights how much of his time is spent holding back. There's a moment when he shoots himself in the hand to demonstrate his invulnerability which is so out of character that it's almost laughable, particularly as Tom Welling is clearly having so much fun letting go of Clark's usual mildness. Case in point: the symbol of Clark's rebellion is his newfound love of leather jackets and motorbikes. The episode plot is inconsequential, but again, it's a first: the realisation that a young Superman must make mistakes. For the most part, Smallville manages this admirably as Clark grows into the hero we know and love.
