Sons Of Anarchy: 12 Characters Everyone's Glad Survived

5. Chibs

Along with Tig, Chibs is the only other main character who had been a fully patched member of the club at the start of the series to survive the show's run. Though Chibs didn't often get his own deeply personal storylines separate from those the club itself had to deal with beyond his conflict with Jimmy O'Phelan, his relationships with Juice and Jax were enough to help flesh him out as the open-minded and loyal person he was. Having earned his way up through the ranks, first to Sergeant-at-Arms, then Vice President and then, with Jax's death, President, Chibs was an undeniably important part of the show. His love for Jackie Boy and willingness to not let the young king go astray, as seen during his season six meltdown on Jax for making decisions about the club, August Marks and the Irish gun business behind the club's back, carried him right through to the end and watching Tommy Flanagan wrestle with Chibs' emotions over how Jax planned to make his own fate in the end was both captivating and depressing. Jax lost his best friend in Opie, lost the love of his life in Tara and lost one of his biggest voices of reason in Bobby. To have lost Chibs, too, would've been kicking both Jax and the audience while they were down and, mercifully, the winsome Scot lived on to lead the Charming charter into a new future.
