4. Super Best Friends
When David Blaine comes to South Park and starts a cult called Blaintology that takes the town by storm and sees its members drowning themselves in a mass suicide, a special group of super-heroes is required to stop Blaintology in its tracks. And who is this group? Why, its a group of religious leaders known as Super Best Friends, consisting of Jesus, Buddha, Moses, Joseph Smith, Krishna, Laozi, Sea Man, and, a somewhat bolder choice by Matt and Trey, Muhammad. An episode that shows the dangers of both cults and religions (and not to mention an episode that includes an overtly fictional Sea Man in its list of religious figures) it would seem obvious that this episode was going to raise a few eyebrows. Surprisingly however this episode caused little uproar at the time of airing, perhaps because of lower viewing figures at the time which meant the episode went unnoticed. That isnt to say that there werent complaints, just not enough to cause any real problems for the creators. So not only did they get away fairly scrape-free with mocking scientology, but more importantly they also got away with depicting Muhammad in this episode. But that didnt stop them from doing it again a few years later...
