South Park: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best
18. Season 12 (2008)
By this time, multi-parters had become something of an annual tradition for South Park, and Season 12's entry into those annals, Pandemic and Pandemic 2: The Startling, don't hold water when compared to the transcendence of Cartoon Wars or Imaginationland.
Focusing a storyline on Craig was a decent enough idea and the tongue-in-cheek commentary he provides throughout the saga is entertaining, but he just isn't that interesting. Additionally, Randy's fascination with shaky-cams gets old really fast.
The other episodes in Season 12 show flashes of Parker and Stone genius - Wendy beating the crap out of Cartman, Britney Spears with half a head, Randy Marsh rioting for Obama - but they have trouble sustaining that over the course of a half-hour.
The sole standout episode of Season 12 is Major Boobage, remarkable for its beautiful Heavy Metal animation homage and the perfect juxtaposition of cheesed-out Kenny and Gerald Broflovski with a Cartman who's turned into the cat version of Oskar Schindler. Other than that, Season 12 is rather bland - it lacks memorable vignettes, the satire feels a little forced, and as is the case with Season 14, it's dragged down by a subpar multi-part episode.
Best Episode: Major Boobage
Worst Episode: Pandemic + Pandemic 2: The Startling
