Squid Game: Every Character Ranked From Human Garbage To Definitely Deserves 45 Billion Won

10. Cho Sang-woo (Player 218)

Squid Game
Netflix

Presented first as the successful and sensible businessman, Cho Sang-woo was the gifted child prodigy who studied at Seoul University to become a securities broker, and the pride of his local community.

However, with all this potential, and no obvious motives but his own greed, Sang-woo gambles 6 billion Won away, even going so far as to put his mother’s house up as collateral. Sang-woo joins the games whist on the run from the authorities, and his intelligence quickly give him an edge in the competitions.

It’s not long, however, before this same intelligence turns into ruthless scheming, deliberately tricking both friends and adversaries as he wittles down the pool of contestants with whom he would share the prize money.

Whilst a Machiavellian glint in his eye is first seen before the Honeycomb Game, it’s from the heartbreaking Marbles Game onwards that it becomes clear to everyone. Sang-woo will stop at nothing to both survive and thrive. Despite a sacrifice in the ending moments that some might call noble, it’s difficult to think of another character whose self serving machinations are so at odds with the good he could have done. Human Garbage.
