A cuddly old grandpa throughout, it’s only in the grand finale that this trusted ally’s character is truly revealed. Presenting himself as a wistful but forgetful geriatric with a terminal condition, Oh Il-Nam inspires enough pity and friendship in his compatriots that they often put themselves in harm’s way to save the life of this decrepit little wisp.

Dying contentedly at the unwilling hands of Gi-hun mid season, Il-Nam shockingly returns following the end of the games to reveal he is the mastermind of it all, funding and orchestrating the whole affair to satisfy the boredom he shares with his other mega wealthy psychopaths, the VIPs.

Whilst you’d think that being directly responsible for so much death would put Il-Nam lower on this list, his commitment to making the game as fair as possible is somewhere in the region of commendable. Il-nam joins the games with a cheeky smile, saying it must be ‘more fun’ than just watching, and we can’t help but feel that there are some good motives in amongst this horrifically poor execution.
