7. Voyager - Barge Of The Dead

Most, if not all, species in Star Trek have their own mythology surrounding what happens after you die. The Ferengi essentially believe in a form of reincarnation, though you have to make sure all your debts are settled or you won't get to buy a new life. Unsurprisingly, Klingons believe something much more violent.

The honored dead end up in Sto-Vo-Kor, a place of eternal food, drink and combat. The dishonored dead go to Gre'thor, a much less happy place.

B'Elanna Torres, a member of the Maquis who joined the crew of the Voyager after being transported to the Delta Quadrant, had always struggled with her heritage. As a half human, half Klingon, she rejected her Klingon side and favored her human qualities. But an ion storm in the Delta Quadrant forced the issue.

In a coma, she found the spirit of her mother on the barge to Gre'thor, presumably due to the dishonor B'Elanna brought on her family by ignoring her Klingon heritage. B'Elanna eventually proved herself and secured her mother's entrance to Sto-Vo-Kor. It may have all been a coma dream or a hallucination, but it was all too real for B'Elanna.

"Barge of the Dead" showed the importance of Klingon mythology to the warrior race, making it seem all too real. Even someone like B'Elanna Torres who had long ignored said mythology was moved and driven by it.
