Star Trek: 10 Best Klingon Episodes
2. The Next Generation - Reunion
Worf's journey in Star Trek through both The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine has had a profound impact on the Klingon Empire. This was one episode of TNG where a lot happened, much if it changing the course of Klingon civilization.
K'Mpec, the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire and acquaintance of both Picard and Worf, was dying. K'Mpec met the Enterprise in space to ask Picard to act as the Arbiter of Succession, meaning he would help choose K'Mpec's replacement. The choice was between Gowron, a relative unknown with permanent crazy eyes, and Duras, an old enemy of Worf's.
The episode also brought Worf's paramour K'Ehleyr back into the mix as well as introducing his previously unknown son, Alexander. Once the pieces were in place, the game was played rapidly. K'Mpec died. Duras killed K'Ehyler. Worf killed Duras. Gowron was named Chancellor of the Empire. Worf sent Alexander to live with the humans who adopted and raised him.
The inner machinations of how the new leader of the Klingon Empire was selected was intriguing. The mix of politics and combat on a very overt level was surprising even for Klingons, as was the lack of input anyone else had in the decision. It was a very insular moment, happening out in space and far away from the Empire.
