6. The JemHadar Destroy The Odyssey
How do you introduce a new villain in style? Destroy the star ship Enterprise with ease. They (almost) did this with the Borg in Next Generations
Q Who? And in Deep Space they did the next best thing to show how big a threat the Dominion truly was. The Odyssey comes to Deep Space Nine in the season 2 finale, in response to the appearance of the JemHadar. The Odyssey is a galaxy glass star ship and weve spent seven seasons of Next Gen at this point getting to know the Enterprise, a fellow galaxy class star ship and how kick-ass it can be. So when they Odyssey aids the crew of Deep Space Nine in rescuing Commander Sisko from the newly emerged JemHadar, you know the Federation is brining out the big guns on this one. Which is why it is truly shocking when three JemHadar vessels fire a couple of shots and suddenly the Odyssey is in serious trouble. Plasma leaks. Fire on the bridge. Its only confounded by a giant WTF moment when one small enemy ship rams the Odyssey and it is destroyed. The Odyssey doesnt stand a chance. And at this point, you realise runabouts arent going to cut it any more. Enter the Defiant
