Khan Noonien Singh was the most notorious of the genetically engineered tyrants who ruled 40 nations in the 1990s. At his peak, he dominated nearly 1.25 billion people.

After the tyrants were overthrown, Khan and his followers escaped execution aboard the sleeper ship SS Botany Bay.

The Enterprise crew discovered Khan more than 200 years later. He promptly tried to seize their ship.

Captain Kirk exiled Khan and his followers to Ceti Alpha V, believing that supermen would thrive there.

Ceti Alpha V became a wasteland when its neighboring planet exploded. Khan swore revenge after several of his people, including his wife, were killed by the desert-dwelling Ceti eels.

Years later, Khan learned of Project Genesis, a system for making barren worlds livable created by Kirk's ex-girlfriend, Carol Marcus, and her son, David. Khan seized Genesis and got Kirk's attention.

Khan, commanding the stolen USS Reliant, attacked the Enterprise. Although Khan initially had the advantage, Kirk had more experience.

Luring Reliant into the Mutara Nebula, Kirk struck a fatal blow. Mortally wounded, Khan activated the Genesis device. Spock died repairing the warp drive in time to escape. The Mutara Nebula was transformed into a new planet that became Spock's resting place.
