Star Trek: 10 Crazy Facts About The Trill

2. Can Meet Past Hosts

Like most other cultures, the Trills had their share of ceremonies and traditions. Not surprisingly, many of those traditions centered around symbionts and the joining process. One of the biggest rites a joined Trill went through was the Zhian'tara, also known as the Rite of Closure.

Through this ceremony, the memories and personality of a previous host could be telepathically removed by a Guardian and placed in a willing host. That host did not have to be a Trill. It could be anyone that the Trill trusted in their lives, including friends and family.

At Jadzia's Zhian'tara, various friends on Deep Space Nine each took the personalities of one of Dax's former hosts. Sisko housed the mind of Joran, the secret host who murdered someone. Odo took on the the role of Curzon, the final host of Dax's prior to Jadzia. It was the first time a Zhian'tara included a changeling and it got interesting.
