7. Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Shades of Gray" - The Clip Show
There are many arguments against the clip show. It represents a certain cheapness, a lack of creative energy, and a complete disregard for an intelligent audience. But it takes a special sort of episode to be bad enough for the very people who worked on it to
hate it. In the show's defense, they had burned their entire budget helping the world believe in sci-fi television again, and they needed something they could shoot quickly. It was also the episode that would lead its co-writer, Maurice Hurley, to leave the show at the end of the second season, and considering he was the reason for Gates McFadden
leaving the show for all of the second season, I think we can agree his departure was a good thing.
