7. Engaging In Biological Warfare

Before there was Dukat, there was Michael Eddington, who served as Benjamin Sisko’s Chief of Security aboard Deep Space Nine. That is until he betrays Starfleet to join a terrorist group - the Maquis.

Once a terrorist, Eddington starts poisoning the atmospheres of Cardassian colonies. Sisko sees this as a personal affront and vows to track down and capture his former officer.

Eddington proves to be a little too slippery, though, and embarrasses Sisko by luring him away from Deep Space Nine. While gone, the Maquis attack another Starfleet vessel.

At this point, Sisko has had it. He realizes that Eddington sees himself as a romantic hero so decides he will play the part of villain. And he plays it well.

How does he do this? He poisons the atmosphere of a Maquis colony, forcing the Maquis to mount a quick and desperate evacuation, or face death. Sisko then vows to poison every Maquis colony in the region until Eddington surrenders. So, Eddington gives himself up and that's the end of the Maquis.

Sisko might bend the rules, but he sure is efficient.
