Star Trek: 10 Most Underrated Characters
8. Wesley Crusher
Come on, he's not that bad. Wesley Crusher, The Next Generation's boy wonder, was the subject of needless harassment and hatred from day one. We would've thought bullying would be extinct by the 24th century.
Although portrayed as an unrealistic Mary Sue in season one, The Next Generation's Wesley Crusher gradually matured into an important part of the Enterprise-D crew. He was still brilliant enough to solve almost any puzzle, yet his demeanour calmed, becoming less childish and annoying as the show progressed.
Even at his worst, audiences were supposed to live vicariously through Wesley's curiosity and wonderment in being aboard the Federation flagship. Surely, we could all relate to him on that level. There was no reason to resent him for it.
His later questionable judgment in performing a prohibited flight maneuver with his squadmates served to further humanize Wesley and make us realize that he could screw up just like the rest of us. Plus, his problematic relationship with the Traveler still creeps us out. Stay away from him, Wesley!
