It's nearly impossible to dig up new information about fictional vehicles from decades old television series and movies, so sometimes our "10 Secrets of [Blank Starship] You Need To Know" articles and videos admittedly fall back on "secrets" that detail-oriented Star Trek fans like yourselves probably actually already know. But this final entry was a surprise and it's a genuine secret about the Enterprise NX-01 that you need to know.

Straight from Doug Drexler himself:

You know that, when you’re on the bridge, on either side of the of the viewscreen there’s a door. And the idea is if you go out that door there’s a dark gallery that runs around the bridge on either side, a circular gallery that has windows... Now if you go outside those, there’s a fireman’s pole that you can slide down to go to engineering.

The series gave us fleeting glimpses of the sections just outside the bridge and Captain Archer's ready room in episodes like "Acquisition", but the window gallery and fire pole were sadly never seen on screen.

Doug continued:

You can step on the pole and go straight down, why wouldn’t you? Fireman have firepoles for a reason, it’s not just because it’s fun! Engineering is a deck below them and aft of them, so you jump on that pole and go down. I wish we could’ve shown that.

So do we, Doug, so do we.
