Star Trek: 10 Species That Can Survive The Vacuum Of Space

4. Species 8472

In a case of trying to have your cake and eat it too with the most galactic of consequence, it was the Borg who first entered the realm of fluidic space, unwittingly unleashing one of the most dangerous species in the whole galaxy.

Designated Species 8472 by the Borg, and never given their true name on-screen following this, the Collective's desire to assimilate new life forms lead them to clash with these biological nightmares. Profoundly durable and immune to assimilation, 8472's physical threat is also matched by their ruthlessness, wiping out fleets of Borg with ease.

Members of the species boast telepathy, regenerative capabilities and a bio-electric field to withstand weapons and circumvent forcefields. As well as developing bio-ships to traverse the cosmos, 8472 themselves also require no atmosphere or gravity to survive, marking them as one of the hardiest creatures ever discovered.

It takes the combined efforts of Voyager and The Borg to drive this xenophobic terror back into fluidic space, and we can only hope that is where they stay, if they ever decide that those fleeting moments of friendship on the holographic Starfleet Academy weren't enough.
