Star Trek: 10 Strangest Alien Species

7. The Q

Star Trek Tholians

Omnipotent. Unfathomably powerful. Immortal. The Q might be the most powerful beings in all of Star Trek. Well, that's what they'd like everyone to believe. If nothing else, they're the most arrogant and condescending beings around, which is saying a lot in a galaxy filled Cardassians and Romulans.

Keeping in mind that every member of the Q Continuum was called Q, the individual Q most Star Trek fans were familiar with was Q. To be clear, Q was would be the one played by John de Lancie on The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. He menaced Starfleet across three series, though his motivations were never clear. Q always seemed to be trying to help in his own, strange way.

The Q's combination of omnipotence, immortality and power gave them a unique outlook on the universe, mainly boredom. While some Q found constructive ways to deal with this boredom, others were a lot more mischievous, if not outright malevolent. Dealing with them was fine balance of keeping control of the situation while not angering them so much that they made an entire species disappear.
