Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Gul Dukat
2. He Is Very Popular
Despite manipulation, underhanded betrayals, savage acts of vengeance, and overseeing a brutal totalitarian regime, it's not an overstatement to say that Gul Dukat is a wildly popular character.
Owing to some great storylines and Alamo's superb performance, 'best of' lists in the years since DS9's finale have frequently featured this Cardassian despot high up in their numbers. In 2002 TV Zone ranked Dukat fourth in their list of TV villains, alongside other Trek mainstays The Borg Queen (2nd), Weyoun (8th), Q (11th) and Seska (18th). Years later, IGN would place him as 15th best Trek character overall in 2009, later rising to 8th in Screen Rant's similar list in 2016. Also in 2016, Dukat was named 4th best Trek villain by Time magazine, then receive another commendation when CBR ranked him 3rd best recurring Trek character in 2018.
It's not all about the publications, however, as Dukat's enduring popularity was enough that a Breen cold suit worn by the character in 'Indiscretion' made it onto the docket as part of the 'It's A Wrap! Sale & Auction' in 2008, attracting 16 bids and selling for $2425.
