6. He Was Supposed To Have An Arc In Season 2 Of The Next Generation
Perhaps one of the most tragic things to learn about Star Trek: The Next Generation is that, initially, it was intended to have a full arc revolving around Q. Or, at least, this had been the intended plan when Maurice Hurley laid out ideas for the second season - but, as a result of writers strike, these plans would ultimately end up falling through.
It's not as though we were hard done to with what we got, as Q did end up in one episode - the tastefully named Q Who - which was undeniably well-received.
But at the same time, knowing we could have had more is an unusually painful prospect, especially because it's a plan that was only cancelled because of external events and time constraints. It's also going to be a source of mystery forever, because we'll never know what storyline would have emerged from this - or what it might have meant for how the character of Q developed from that point onwards.
