Star Trek: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Soongs
1. Altan Inigo Soong's Secret Research
In the two-part final episode of the first season of Star Trek: Picard, we learned for the first time that Noonian Soong had actually had a biological child, Altan Inigo Soong, with a woman he had known before his relationship with Juliana.
After the Federation's synth ban, Altan hid and conducted secret research on cybernetics on the planet Coppelius. There, with the help of Bruce Maddox, he was able to create a new generation of androids by using a technique called fractal neural cloning on a positronic neuron from Data's brain that was smuggled out of the Daystrom Institute.
In addition to improving on Noonian's androids, Altan also created synthetic butterflies and the synthetic cat affectionately named Spot II. However, his greatest achievement was probably creating the Soong Method, a technique that allows people to be resurrected from the dead by transferring their consciousness into an artificial 'golem' body (which was likely an evolution of the technology that brought Juliana Soong back to life).
