Star Trek: 15 Greatest Ever Time Travel Episodes
3. Yesterday's Enterprise - TNG
There's a pretty definite rule in time travel episodes: if there are two different versions of Picard show up, it's guaranteed to be a good time.
As an indication of just how good this episode is, it was initially planned to be a movie (or it would have been if the producers knew there was going to be scope for them, anyway). It's a particularly cinematic episode that sees the Enterprise C propelled through a time anomaly into a future where the Federation is still at war with the Klingon empire.
In a rare alternate to the usual alternate timeline story model, we're presented with the question of whether or not it would be better to actually not repair the timeline (not least because Tasha Yar remains alive). Unfortunately, Worf is gone as a result of that (and the war), and there are some pretty shocking deaths (including Riker) along the way.
And that finale pitting the two ships in battle together to set things back as they were pretty much guaranteed that it would become a firm favourite.
