Star Trek: 8 Things You Didn't Know About The Eugenics Wars
5. Captain Jonathan Archer
Other regions of the world were not so lucky as the United States. One area devastated by open war was North Africa. One of the soldiers involved in the North African campaign was Captain Jonathan Archer's great-grandfather.
As depicted in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode Hatchery, during Enterprise's conflict with the Xindi, Enterprise encountered a disabled Xindi ship containing an Insectoid hatchery. Much to his crew's confusion, Captain Archer became obsessed with protecting this hatchery from harm. To illustrate his point that even war has moral rules, he related a war story about his great-grandfather to Trip Tucker.
During the Eugenics War, his great-grandfather was in command of a battalion. The battalion was evacuating civilians from a school in the middle of the combat zone when they came under attack from the Augments. Wanting to limit collateral damage, Archer's great-grandfather contacted his Augment counterpart and successfully convinced the Augment commander to hold fire long enough to finish evacuating the school.
