Star Trek: Every Vulcan Ability You Need To Know

When Michael Burnham was nearly killed as a child, Sarek, Spock's father, saved her life using a mind meld. We'll discuss mind melds later, but, not only was this a rare case of a mind meld being able to save someone's life, but it also created a faint telepathic link between Sarek and Michael. According to Michael, this is because the mind meld transferred part of Sarek's katra into her mind. We'll also discuss what a katra is in a moment, but it's basically a Vulcan soul.

This soul-sharing meant that when Burnham was facing extreme danger and stress, Sarek could literally beam his thoughts into her mind across thousands of lightyears to talk to her and give her advice. Burnham could also sense when Sarek was in danger, but, as a human, she couldn't effectively communicate with him, without using technology to amplify her brain waves.

This ability appears to be rather difficult to achieve, as we only see it used a few times.
