Star Trek: Everything We Know About Starfleet Academy
4. Class Of 2026? Class Of 319(?)?
Forget your triathlons, this summer is for tricom badges, cadet versions (as seen in Kobayashi Maru and All Is Possible) and otherwise. Starfleet Academy is due to start filming, well, now, this very August (2024). Oh, to be in Toronto!
In March (2024), Alex Kurtzman confirmed to Collider that season one of Academy would consist of 10 episodes, with a filming schedule of six months, followed by six to eight months of post-production. Given all that, Kurtzman noted that the series might "end up not airing until 2026". No official release date has been given since, so it could technically still arrive sooner. If the Academy itself waited 125 years, however, I think we can be patient for less than two!
We're also left wondering what exact year will be on the yearbook of those five (soon six) cadets. It can't be any earlier than the Academy's reopening in 3190, and given the location, not before Earth rejoined the Federation later that year in Coming Home. In theory, the series could be set in 3191, i.e. during Star Trek: Discovery's fifth season — you can have more than one campus (it used to, in fact) and more than one threat to the Federation, after all. That doesn't seem particularly likely, however, so let's say 3192 onwards (after Discovery's finale, and pre-coda), but before the next century!
