Star Trek New Series: 10 Reasons It Should Be Captain Worf

3. Because DS9 Left Us With More Questions Than Answers...

DS9 was a brilliant show. Some fans evidently found its themes too dark, its story arcs too intricate and its religious/political allegories too €˜on the nose€™, but many fans remember it as the last truly great Star Trek show, replaced by the generally directionless (and often dysfunctional) €˜Enterprise€™ series. DS9 greatly developed the character of Worf over the course of the four seasons he spent with them. During his time on DS9, poor old Mr. Worf was put into numerous scenarios including, but not at all limited to, falling in love with and marrying fellow officer Jadzia Dax (and then going through the agony of losing her), finding himself forced to kill Klingon High Chancellor Gowron and (very briefly) becoming ruler of the Klingon Empire in the process and memorably teaming up with his Klingon hero Kor in order to track down sacred relic €˜The Sword of Kahless€™. A jealous, grumpy and childish Worf even sabotaged the weather systems on the famed holiday planet Risa at one point! However, at the end of DS9, Worf is placed yet again in unfamiliar territory. His best friend, General Martok, has been named as the leader of the Klingon High Council and Worf grudgingly becomes the new Klingon ambassador to the Federation. Despite Martok€™s jubilant cries of €œFinally, an ambassador I can go targ hunting with!€ Worf appears to be unsure of his position. His honour demands that he accept the post, but his heart, one can clearly see, still belongs with Starfleet. Some have suggested that he becomes First Officer aboard The Enterprise E, if so, that€™s great, but what happens next? Michael Dorn is the actor with the most €˜Star Trek€™ credits to his name, his character is arguably the most beloved by fans and it would therefore be great (from the perspective of this fan at least) to see Worf€™s story drawn to a complete and satisfactory conclusion.

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
