Star Trek: Picard - 7 Ups & 5 Downs From Season 1

2. No Big Twist

If you'll permit me to quote the Ups and Downs article from last week...

Lore, Q, The Enterprise, V'Ger, Worf, Geordi, The Origin Of The Borg, Seven Becoming Their New Queen, Starfleet Being The Real Bad Guys, Data Coming Back From The Dead, you name it, someone's suggested it as the big twist that was going to make the Picard season finale an absolutely seminal moment in Trek history. In the end, though, there was absolutely nothing in the way of a jaw-dropper in our final 54 minutes. A twist purely for the sake of a twist would have been worse, but the show has put in genuine effort with its mysterious prophecies and shadowy conspiracies to give you the impression that nothing was as it really seemed. In the end though, it was, disappointingly.

The bottom line here, a week removed from the end of the show, it doesn't really feel like there's one giant hook on which to recommend it to your Trek loving friends. It's a great show, it's entertaining, and it should appeal to fans of all persuasions, but there's nothing in it that makes it essential viewing.
