Star Trek Picard: Every Easter Egg & Hidden Reference From 'The End Is The Beginning'

3. Cool Shades, Oh

We catch up with Agnes Jurati listening to Kasseelian opera on her Apple EarPods outside the Daystrom Institute. Kasseelian opera was Lieutenant Paul Stamet's favorite music in Star Trek: Discovery, which you can listen to on your own Apple EarPods on Jeff Russo's Star Trek: Discovery season one soundtrack.

Agnes is visited by Commodore Oh who's rocking some hot sunglasses. Vulcans like Oh have an inner eyelid to protect them from the hot Vulcan sun (TOS: "Operation - Annihilate!", Enterprise: "The Forge"), so this is purely a fashion statement.

Despite the internet's reaction, Oh's sunglasses aren't really that unprecedented in Star Trek history: Captain Archer and Commander Trip Tucker wore some 2000s cool Oakleys in "Desert Crossing", Jennifer Sisko wore sunglasses in Deep Space Nine's premiere episode "Emissary", Geordi LaForge wore a pair in Star Trek: First Contact to hide his ocular implants from the 21st century natives/to give LeVar Burton a day off from having to wear uncomfortable contact lenses.

Picard later identifies Oh's job as head of Starfleet Security which was Benjamin Sisko's job briefly in the DS9 episodes "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost".
