Star Trek: Picard Finale Review - 3 Ups And 5 Downs From Et In Arcadia Ego (Part 2)

3. Wrapping Things Up Nicely
Without exception, the worst trope of modern television is ending every single season with some sort of cliffhanger. Watchmen is one of the greatest shows of recent years, purely because it's such a beautifully self-contained story. Yes, the final shot leaves a juicy question dangling, but it's of no importance to the overall narrative.
The decision to wrap up all the main plot threads in Picard is a welcome change, and gives a sense of closure that's an increasing rarity these days. The synth ban is lifted, the Admonition did not come to pass, Oh has been exposed, Narissa killed, Data given closure, and Picard's mortality neatly sidestepped. Yes, a lot of this happened in underwhelming circumstances, but it did at least happen.
What set up we do get for Season 2 consists merely of the new crew of the La Sirena heading out into the stars to, presumably, put right some of the other wrongs in the galaxy. In truth, a more Star Trek-style adventure-of-the-week format is exactly what this show needs going forward, and here's hoping that's what we're getting when it returns.
