The Original Series of Star Trek first aired in 1966 and ran for three seasons. The cult phenomenon went on to spawn an animated series, then further live action shows following different Star Fleet crews in The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise.
Still going strong today, with Discovery, Picard and the animated series Lower Decks currently airing, even before you consider the thirteen films and several other projects still in production, this adds up to several hundred characters to keep track of.
Many of the cast and characters have become iconic to the point that they are recognisable even to people who have never seen the show.
However, the forward-thinking inclusivity of the franchise meant there were countless different species and races all interacting in ways that few other shows have replicated since.
