Star Trek: Ranking The Series Intros Worst To Best

8. #8: Picard

One might be hard-pressed to differentiate the opening score of Star Trek: Picard from a pleasant evening listening to a light orchestra.

Serene and actually fairly lovely in another context, the score still lacks the driving pushes that characterize the more compelling Star Trek scores. It’s little more than breezy background music.

Visually, the intro is much more rewarding. Chock full of symbols and thematic references, its elements meld to form the inimitable Captain Jean-Luc Picard. This is quite apt considering that the series dwells on what makes the man who he is.

Yet, overall the intro feels entirely skippable after just a couple of views, especially should one try binge-watching the series over the weekend. While other series now tend to rely on shorter, seconds-long intros to keep the action moving, Star Trek: Picard’s intro feels like an eternity or, perhaps worse, for casual viewers it’s a bit like homework.

Would-be viewers can easily be deterred by the rambling canon and decades-long continuity of Star Trek and wouldn’t be much reassured and drawn in by myriad abstract hints and callbacks. They could instead start the series feeling like they’re already lost.
